Every fall, we head to Frontenac Provincial Park. This time we decided to break tradition (kind of) and go in May. We headed out for a two day hike along Big Salmon Lake Loop. We've done this route before, and its a hard one not to keep going back to! The views are beautiful and frequent, making any hills worth hiking. This time Reese had her own backpack (Ruffwear Approach Pack), which helped with our load. We saw the usual- herons, snakes, plenty of beaver dams, but overall enjoyed the easy hike. The big treat was our campsite. I have always said that I love Frontenac for the hiking, but I prefer anywhere else for camping. Usually the backcountry sites seem remote, but lack privacy if someone else books next door to you. In a previous post about Frontenac, we even had a family roll in on a canoe after dark. They needed help finding the campsite (they only found it because they happened to see our headlamps) and even expected firewood to be there waiting for them at the site (so we gave them some of ours). Needless to say, this was not the case at site 13A. The only site in the park rated as having good privacy, you can only see the other campsite if you are out on the water. I will definitely be returning to this spot!
We had a nice supper, of a smoked salmon pasta (recipe in a previous post) and settled in. We took our time in the morning, and made a delicious breakfast of blueberry sausage and eggs. We napped in the hammock, played some uno, and then decided to head on out. Overall, we had beautiful weather and a beautiful hike.
